TW for abusive situations w/r/t disability

I’m sure this has been discussed before but I just haven’t seen it… but I was really, really freaked out by the issue in her Batgirl series where the psychic rewrote her mind pretty much on a whim because he didn’t like that she didn’t think in words and thought it would be better if he gave her the ability to speak English without even knowing her story or if she would want it.

Especially because it was pretty clear that the reason behind the whole thing was that the writers wanted a way to use thought boxes and so forth with Cass and couldn’t with the current canon. And I mean, I’m not saying it was necessarily a bad decision, I just was so creeped out by how it happened, with the guy just being like “oh you think incorrectly, I’ll fix that” without knowing a damn thing about why she thought the way she did or how she felt about having her mind altered so hugely.

It just reminds me of how many people in real life alter disabled people’s minds and bodies without our consent because they feel they know better. 

They could have done a plot where Cass finds out about a way to have the English thing happen and decides to do it. It would take longer and require more trickiness to have the readers understand Cass, but it would have left such a better taste in my mouth.
